Controversial plans to construct a whitewater rafting facility on George’s Dock have been shelved.
According to Dublin City Council’s Capital Programme 2022-2024, there has been extreme hostility aimed towards the project and the council has been unable to convince the various State funding bodies to support the project.
The shelving of the €25 million facility was welcomed by Fine Gael Dublin City Councillor Danny Byrne who stated, “I will take the opportunity at tonights’ monthly Dublin City Council meeting to caution the Council management against rushing into an alternative proposal”.
With over €2 million already being invested into the project, Byrne stated that there needs to be a “period of reflection and lessons learned.”
He said that he will call on the Chief Executive of Dublin City Council to have a local consultation in terms of the best project for the site.
