Government reintroduces PUP as restrictions implemented

The Government has announced it will reinstate the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) for all workers who lose their jobs as a result of the new restrictions announced.

Minister Heather Humphreys confirmed the news this evening.

She tweeted: “I know many workers will be worried tonight. The Pandemic Unemployment Payment will reopen for applications for workers impacted by latest restrictions. My Department will work on this as a matter of urgency & full details will be announced over coming days.”

Taoiseach Micheál Martin announced the new restrictions this evening following advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).

The new measures will take effect from December 7th and will be reviewed on January 9th.

Visits to households over the next few weeks should be reduced to a maximum of three other households.

Indoor hospitality will be table service only, with no more than six people per table.

There will be a maximum of 50% capacity for indoor cultural, entertainment, community and sporting events.

Nightclubs will be required to close during this time.

Covid-19 vaccine cert will be required for hotels bars, restaurants, gyms and leisure centres.
