Increase in primary school children contracting Covid-19

The number of primary school children contracting Covid-19 rose again last week.

Last week, 6,077 five to twelve-year-olds tested positive for the virus. This is an increase of 13% on the previous week.

Furthermore, it is an 80% increase over the past four weeks.

This age group now represents one in five of all Covid-19 infections across Ireland.

From today, all children aged 9 and older are required to wear a face mask in schools, shops and on public transport.
