First US omicron case detected in California

The first confirmed case of the new omicron Covid-19 variant in the United States has been detected in California.

The CDC revealed that the person was a fully vaccinated individual who had returned from South Africa on November 22nd.

The person had mild symptoms and is improving.

The person has since tested negative and all close contacts are isolating.

Dr. Anthony Fauci encouraged all Americans to get vaccinated, and urged anyone eligible for a booster, to come forward.

“We know what we need to do to protect people,” Fauci said.
