Average age of Covid-19 cases is 33 years old, according to data

According to the latest figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC), the average age of Covid-19 cases is 33 years old.

The figures also revealed that one-fifth of cases identified in the past two weeks were children of primary school age. Of the 61,659 cases identified in the last two weeks, 11,702 (19%) were in those aged 5-12 years old.

A further 11,087 were in those aged 35-44 years old while the 14-day national incidence of the disease was over 1,294 cases for every 100,000 people.

The county with the highest incidence rate is currently Westmeath with 1,874 cases per 100,000 people.

Meanwhile, a total of 802,691 booster doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered by the HSE.

This figure consists of 720,738 additional doses and 81,953 doses for people who are immunocompromised.
