Public Health Scotland and local health teams are working together and enhanced contact tracing is underway to establish the origin of the virus.

All contacts of the Omicron variant will be advised to self-isolate for 10 days, regardless of vaccination status.

First minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “Let me stress there is no evidence yet that this is sustained, nor any evidence from the enhanced surveillance that it is widespread at this stage.”

Scotland’s Health Secretary said until more is known about the variant everyone must do what they can to minimise risk of infection.
