Everyone over 16 to be offered booster jab following NIAC advice

Following advice from the National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC), everyone over the age of 16 will be eligible to receive a Covid-19 booster jab. 

The booster shots will be rolled out in order of vulnerability to the virus and the period of time since an individual’s primary vaccine was administered.


The majority of individual’s in long-term residential care have received their booster vaccines as well as those over 80 years old. 

Pregnant women will be prioritised for the booster while those aged 40-49 will receive the dose next. 

Finally, those aged 16 to 39 will be offered their booster vaccine dose, starting with 39-year-olds first.


Anyone who received the single-dose Jonhson & Johnson vaccine must wait three months before being eligible to receive their booster dose. 

Anyone who received an mRNA vaccine as their primary vaccination such as Pfizer or Moderna must wait five to six months before receiving their booster dose. 

Those who have had Covid-19 will have to wait six months after infection for a booster.
