Hospitals to require proof of vaccination or immunity from Monday

From Monday, hospitals will be requiring all visitors to present proof of vaccination or immunity before gaining access to the premises.

This is a significant escalation from previous restrictions which required visitors to remain at home if they tested positive for the virus or presented symptoms.

Although strict, exceptions will be made on compassionate grounds.

Visitors will be asked to present their inoculation/immunity status at the entrance to the hospital and may also be asked to produce identification to prove the vaccination pass is indeed theirs.

Regular visitors will not be consistently subject to checks once the staff member at the hospital entrance is confident that said visitor has previously shown proof of vaccination/immunity.

Healthcare workers have welcomed the news after raising concerns about unvaccinated visitors coming into contact with vulnerable patients.

One ICU nurse at St. Vincent’s University Hospital stated, “The visiting system is a shambles. You have to show your Covid certificate to get into a coffee shop but not Vincent’s ICU or the wards”.

Another nurse stated, “It’s ridiculous that we can’t ask for Covid certs in a hospital. Are you joking me? Staff and the most vulnerable patients are possibly being exposed to unvaccinated people.”
