Truckers to hold protest in Dublin over fuel prices

Truckers and hauliers will be leading convoys throughout the main motorways around Dublin and the city centre today in protest against fuel prices.

The group, called the Irish Truckers Haulage Association Against Fuel Prices, stated that it’s protesting for “lower fuel costs at the pump and at home”.

Calling for a peaceful protest, the group has advised those who are taking part to keep hard shoulders and bus lanes free while asking for consideration for emergency vehicles.

Certain meeting points will be stationed along the M1, M2, M3, M4, M7 and M11 motorways with HGV and LGV owner-operators intending to travel towards the Dáil.

A Facebook post which obtained 2,400 likes read, “All roads lead to Kildare Street or as far as we can get. When we stop don’t move”.

The group has urged for a peaceful protest to take place while stating, “We don’t want any trouble or vigilante groups to act up. Stay at home if that’s your plans please”.

The group also raised the possibility of an additional protest in the week before Christmas.

Motorists travelling to the Dublin area have been advised to plan accordingly.
