Pfizer claims vaccine is 100% effective in teenagers after four months

Pfizer/BioNTech has claimed that its Covid-19 vaccine is 100% effective against teenagers aged 12 to 15 years old four months after the second dose is administered.

Both companies stated that the new data will help support their applications for full approval in the United States and worldwide.

No serious safety concerns were reported in individuals with at least six months of follow-up after the second dose.

Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla stated, “As the global health community works to increase the number of vaccinated people around the world, these additional data provide further confidence in our vaccine’s safety and effectiveness profile in adolescents”.

Currently, the vaccine is only fully approved in people aged 16 and older, however, there are plans to expand this to those aged 12 to 15 years old.

Pfizer’s data is based on a trial consisting of 2,228 participants with 30 confirmed symptomatic Covid-19 cases without evidence of prior infection in the placebo group, corresponding to a vaccine efficacy of 100%.
