Five dead and 40 injured after car drives through parade in US

At least five people have died and another 40 have been injured after a car drove into a parade in Wisconsin, US.

The SUV was driven at speed through a Christmas parade last night and it’s understood that a person of interest was in custody and a vehicle had been recovered from the incident in the town of Waukesha.


According to Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson, over 20 individuals including children were struck by the vehicle with five confirmed fatalities.

Authorities stated that they had taken 11 adults and 12 children to six hospitals in the area while more were transported by family and friends.

It’s not known whether the incident was related to terrorism but there was no further danger in the town, according to Mr. Thompson.


Mr. Thompson stated that an officer had fired shots at the vehicle and no bystanders were injured.

Video footage is circulating on social media of the red SUV driving at speed towards the parade moments before the collision.
