The Netherlands had recently entered Europe’s first partial lockdown of the winter last Saturday after the Government announced three weeks of curbs on restaurants, shops and sporting events.

Upon announcing injuries relating to the fired shots, Rotterdam police stated, “A demonstration that started tonight at 8pm on the Coolsingel has resulted in riots. Fires have been set in several places. Fireworks were set off and police fired several warning shots”.

A police spokesman told AFP that at least one police car was set on fire during the protest, however, he would not specify the number of injuries.

The Dutch Government will be reviewing the situation on the 3rd of September.

It is also considering excluding unvaccinated people from bars and restaurants while limiting admittance to people who have been vaccinated or recovered from the virus.
