Garda suspended after allegedly stealing from Deliveroo cyclist

Gardaí have launched an investigation into allegations of a Garda officer stealing money from a Deliveroo cyclist in Dublin city centre who has now been suspended.

The incident, which occurred in September of this year, was subject to a scoping exercise conducted by senior members of the force.

The Garda Press Office confirmed today that a full criminal investigation had been launched and that the officer was suspended from duty.

All aspects of the incident will be examined, including whether similar events have happened before. The cyclist said that she was flagged down and stopped by the two men who produced Garda badges and identified themselves as Gardaí.

She was searched and returned to her home, which was also searched by the officers. After they left, she claims that several hundred euros and her passport were missing.

An evo-fit of the alleged perpetrators was sent to Garda stations across Dublin.

The second officer had identified himself to his superior as one of the perpetrators and that he believed it was a legitimate search.

No record of the search was found on the Garda PULSE system until after the evo-fit was sent around, raising the suspicions of senior officers.
