New Covid-19 rules are designed to close us – Nightclub owner

Owner and operator of Dublin nightclub Tramline ‘Ian Redmond’ has described the new Covid-19 restrictions as being designed to shut nightclubs down.

Mr. Redmond said that shifting hours makes no sense while adding, “We’re confused as to what difference timings make on what time someone comes to a nightclub at, and why closing at 12 is any different than closing at 3.”

Redmond said that “It’s pretty obvious to us that these measures are designed to actually just close us.”

He added that he would rather health officials say “look, we’re closing nightclubs.” He criticised the idea of closing at midnight instead of 3am while saying that it’s “non-sensical”.

He cited financial reasons as to why nightclubs were not ordered to close down entirely.

He said that officials are afraid to shut down nightclubs because “we’ll have more rights towards further funding that they don’t want to provide.”

This comes as Health Minister Stephen Donnelly refused to rule out lockdowns at Christmas or beyond while Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney stated that the last thing the Government want to do is another lockdown before Christmas.
