Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Tony Holohan has said canceling socialising plans in the run up to Christmas is “responsible”.
He urged people to reduce their social contacts as Covid-19 hospitalisations continue to rise.
Holohan said: “We’re advising people to stay at home as much as possible and work from home – those would be responsible decisions, if they were to be taken.”
The Government announced a wave of new measures on Tuesday in a bid to curb rising Covid-19 cases and hospitalisations.
People are being advised to return to working from home where possible and hospitality settings will be required to close at midnight.
Close contacts in the same household will also be required to restrict their movements for five days.
Digital Covid-19 Certificates will also be required to gain entry to cinemas and theatres.
