Further cuts to the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) take effect today

People receiving the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) will see a further reduction in their payment from today.

The €250 PUP payment will be reduced to €203, which is the standard job seeker’s rate.

The PUP rate of €300 will reduce to €250.

People who were on the higher payment of €350 have already been moved to the €300 band as of September.

The payment, which was introduced in March 2020, is due to be scrapped completely in February 2022.

Meanwhile, Cabinet are meeting today to make any final decisions following advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).
