Situation across the health service ‘very, very grim’ – HSE

The COO of the HSE has described the situation across the health service as “very, very grim”.

The HSE’s Chief Operations Officer Anne O’Connor said: “We are experiencing significant pressure across the country. The incidence of Covid is rising in all of our catchment areas.”

O’Connor noted that there has been a 25% increase in the number of Covid-19 patients in hospitals over the past week.

“These numbers are growing at such a pace and we can’t see when it’s going to turn.”

“People are sicker and they need to come to hospital,” she said.

“It is a very, very grim situation.”

O’Connor claimed there is “only so much” the HSE can do as a health service.
