Property prices rise by 12.4% in year to September – CSO

According to the Central Statistics Office (CSO), property prices in Ireland have risen to 12.4% in the year to September.

Prices continue to rise faster outside of Dublin at 13.2% while prices in the Dublin region stand at 11.5%.

The figures revealed that within Dublin, house prices rose by 14.1% in Dublin City while house prices rose by 8.6% in Fingal.

The Border region was the area outside of Dublin that grew the quickest (21.9%), however, even in the slowest growing region – the Mid East – prices rose by 10.7%.

National house prices are now 7.4% below the 2007 peak while rising 106.5% from their post-crash low point in 2013.

The pace of price increases for existing dwellings has almost doubled from the second quarter of this year to the third quarter.

The figures also revealed that the volume of transactions in September was up 14.3% on August and 34.8% when compared to September last year.

Existing dwellings had accounted for 86% of transactions which is an increase of 43.2% over the year, while new dwellings accounted for 14%.

The nationwide median price for a house was €272,000 while in the Dublin region, it was €400,000. Outside the Dublin region, the highest median price was €375,000.
