Man hospitalised with serious injuries following assault in Portlaoise

Investigations are ongoing following an assault that occurred yesterday morning in Portlaoise.

The incident occurred between approximately 3am to 3:30am near the junction of Main Street and Church Street yesterday morning.


A man in his 40s was taken to Midland Regional Hospital and later transferred to St. James’ Hospital, Dublin where his condition has been described as serious.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or was near the Main Street junction at the time of the incident to contact them.

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident has been asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station at 057 867 4100, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
