Britney Spears’ conservatorship ends after 13 years

Britney Spears’ conservatorship has finally been brought to an end after 13 years in operation, controlling the pop star’s personal affairs and finances.

In a landmark court hearing in Los Angeles, Britney delivered a statement that condemned her father Jamie Spears and others who were in charge of the abusive legal arrangement.

Many people gathered outside the court to celebrate Spears’ freedom with Irish pop stars Jedward tweeting “She’s free #FreeBritney” while her fiancé Sam Asghari posted on Instagram, “History was made today. Britney is Free!”

The conservatorship had been implemented back in the year 2008 when Spears was said to be suffering from mental health problems.

Since then, Jamie Spears was in control of her affairs until 2019, and her finances until September of this year when he was removed by Judge Brenda Penny from his role.

Britney will now be in control of her estimated fortune of $60 million (€52.4) and will also be free to make her own medical and personal decisions for the first time since 2008.
