NPHET recommends wider use of Covid-19 vaccine passes

The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) is recommending extending the use of the Covid-19 vaccine passport beyond the hospitality industry as health officials express concerns over the recent surge in Covid-19 cases.

Currently, the Covid-19 vaccine certificate is only required for international travel and to avail of indoor dining in hospitality settings.

Although a letter from NPHET to Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has recommended the wider use of the vaccine certificate, it hasn’t been specified what sectors will be affected.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan suggested that he was in favour of Cvoid-19 vaccine passes being used for barbers and hairdressers.

However, this proposal has received criticism from some barbers and hairdressers which became prominent yesterday during an interview that took place on The Pat Kenny Show where the owner of the Dublin barbershop Sam’s Barbers ‘Sam Donnelly’ criticised the idea, saying that it was “a load of tripe”.

There have also been complaints of disclarity as Stephen Donnelly stated yesterday that the Government were not considering a return to full-time remote working, however, NPHET is now urging the Government that people work from home where possible.
