Man charged with sexual assault of woman in Cork park

A 27-year-old man has been charged in connection with the sexual assault of a woman at a park in Fermoy, Co. Cork.

Moldovan national Vladim Veste was brought before a special sitting at Fermoy District Court this morning and charged in connection to the incident.

He was charged with two offences relating to the incident, assault causing harm and sexual assault, to which Veste made no reply to either charge.

Detective Garda David Barry said Gardaí were objecting to bail due to the seriousness of the charge and the fact that each charge carries a five-year sentence upon conviction.

Defence solicitor Daithi Ó Donnabhain said that his client’s passport was in possession of Gardaí and that he didn’t pose a flight risk.

Det. Garda Barry stated that the woman was traumatised following the attack and required medical attention.

She has also been finding it difficult to sleep since the assault took place. Veste was remanded in custody and will appear before Cork District Court via video link on November 18th.
