UK not yet ready to give up on talks with EU, Frost claims

Britain’s Brexit Minister David Frost has said there is more work to be done on negotiations with the European Union.

Frost said the UK was not yet ready to give up on talks with the EU.

“This process of negotiations has not reached its end, although we have been talking for nearly four weeks now there remain possibilities that the talks have not yet seriously examined,” Frost said.

“There is more to do and I certainly will not give up on this process, unless and until, it is abundantly clear that nothing more can be done. We are certainly not at that point yet.”

Frost claimed the EU should stay calm and keep things in proportion, saying there is a real opportunity to “turn away from confrontation, to move beyond our current difficulties and put in place a new, and better, equilibrium”.

“I do repeat that in our view Article 16 is not inevitable,” he said.

“I want to be clear about that. It is much better to come to a negotiated agreement, that is the best way forward for stability, sustainability, prosperity in Northern Ireland. That is what we are working to do.”
