Garda in Cork arrested and suspended from duty following investigation

A Garda officer has been arrested and suspended from duty following an investigation into false statements made by the officer against other members of the force.

The Garda was arrested this morning and questioned by officers in the Tipperary Garda Division and has since been released from custody.

These officers were investigating letters that were anonymously sent to various senior Gardaí including the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission over a period of time.

It’s believed that the letters made allegations against members of the force.

The Garda officer, aged in his 20s, was released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A Garda statement said, “He has been suspended from duty as a member of An Garda Síochána.”
