Approximately 30 Covid-19 PCR tests are repeated each month – HSE

The Health Service Executive (HSE) has said that approximately 25-30 repeat Covid-19 PCR tests are carried out each month.

The repeat tests are carried out when there is an issue with the first test.

The health service said repeating a PCR test and interpretation of the result can take into account the person’s clinical history, their clinical condition and the reason for the first test.

The HSE said it also takes into account whether or not they were a close contact, if they had a previous positive test and parameters within the test itself.

Green Party leader Eamon Ryan resumed his plans to attend the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow at the weekend after receiving a negative follow-up test.

An initial test indicated that he was positive for Covid-19.
