Boy (13) dies after being hit by sliotar at Kilkenny school

In what has been described as a “tragic accident”, a 13-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a sliotar at St. Kieran’s College, Walkinslough, Co. Kilkenny yesterday.

The boy collapsed after being hit by the sliotar and was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Gardaí have stated that they are treating the boy’s death as a tragic accident and a file is being prepared for the Coroner’s Court.

A statement from St. Kieran’s College to the local radio station KCLR FM said; “St. Kieran’s College deeply regrets that a tragic accident happened at lunchtime yesterday involving a young student of our school.”

The college stated that students were playing as normal before the incident occurred while adding, “This is a terrible tragedy for his family, friends, parish and all in our school community. You will understand the need for privacy at this time.”

“Each and every one of our students are precious to us – we pray for each other today – May St. Kieran be for us a support at this time.”
