An investigation is underway by Gardaí after a woman in her 50s was attacked and sexually assaulted last night in Cork.
It’s understood that the woman was walking her dog in Fermoy at approximately 6:45pm in the sports ground of the Loreto Convent.
She was then approached by a man who knocked her to the ground and sexually assaulted her before stealing some of her personal items.
The man fled the scene after two people intervened and assisted the woman.
They then notified Gardaí about the attack who cordoned off the area and carried out a full technical examination.
Badly shaken by the incident, the woman was taken for treatment and examination at the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit at South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital.
Gardaí are attempting to find the identity of the attacker and are also expected to carry out door-to-door inquiries in the area and will also be seeking CCTV footage around the southside of Fermoy.
Anyone with any information in relation to the incident or noticed anyone acting suspiciously in the Loreto Sports Ground or nearby areas between 6pm and 7pm yesterday is asked to contact Fermoy Garda Station at 025 82100.
