IMO advises public to walk away from places that don’t request vaccine passes

The Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) has urged the public to walk away from places that don’t check Covid-19 vaccine certs for indoor hospitality.

IMO President Dr. Ina Kelly was speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland where she discussed how long hospital waiting lists are to be expected as a result of Covid-19 hospitalisations.

With hospitals under severe pressure, partly attributed to 3,500 healthcare staff being absent due to Covid-19-related illness but also because of a lack of adherence to public health guidelines from some individuals.

Dr. Kelly said that although vaccines are effective, they haven’t been as effective as expected which has prioritised health measures such as mask-wearing and social distancing as the best way to reduce hospitalisations.

Dr. Kelly advised people to leave venues that don’t check vaccine passes while stating, “We should be watching the environments we go into, and if we feel that they’re not safe, just don’t go into them”.

Similar comments were made by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan last week when he said that people should leave venues when they aren’t asked to provide their vaccination status.
