Northern Ireland Health Minister sues Van Morrison over ‘very dangerous’ criticism

Northern Ireland’s Health Minister is suing Van Morrison after the singer labeled him “very dangerous” over handling of Covid-19 pandemic.

The legal action focuses on an incident at the Europa Hotel in Belfast in the summer, when Morrison took to the stage and criticised Robin Swann.

The defamation proceedings also cite two further incidents when the singer elaborated on his views.

In the first incident, Morrison was challenged by a Sunday Life journalist, where he was reported to have labeled Swann a “fraud”.

The second incident relates to when the singer uploaded a video on YouTube in which he addressed his comments made at the Europa Hotel.

In that video he once again criticises the Health Minister and labels him “dangerous”.

Legal proceedings are at an advanced stage and a hearing date is expected to be in early 2022.
