Man critically injured following serious assault in Cork city

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 40s was found with serious head injuries in Cork city on Thursday night.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the incident shortly before 9pm on the Lower Glanmire Road.


The man was removed from the scene by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where his condition is understood to be critical.

So far, Gardaí have arrested two people, a man and a woman aged in their 20s, in relation to the incident and they are currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Bridewell and Gurranabraher Garda Stations.

A forensic examination of the scene has been completed and an incident room has been established. Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.


They are also urging any road users in possession of dash-cam footage who were travelling in the area at the time of the incident to also contact them.
