Eight people dead and dozens injured following crowd surge at US music festival

Eight people have died and dozens have been left injured following a crowd surge at a music festival in Houston, Texas.

The music festival was organised by rapper Travis Scott and a total of 23 people were removed to hospital with the youngest being ten years old.

Confirming the eight casualties, Houston Fire Chief Samuel Pena said that the cause of death among the eight people is unknown while adding that they transported 17 of the 23 people to hospital.

Pena stated, “At around 9 or 9:15, the crowd began to compress toward the front of the stage and that caused panic and people were getting injured.”

According to Pena, 11 of those who were transported were in cardiac arrest.

Investigations remain ongoing.
