CLIMATE: Worldwide marches to take place today demanding climate action

Marches will be taking place today in cities around the world with tens of thousands of people taking part to demand action on climate change.

Approximately 50,000 people are expected to march in Glasgow today where the UN climate summit COP26 is taking place.

Protests will also be taking place across the UK in cities including London with over 200 events scheduled.

Yesterday, thousands of climate activists along with Greta Thunberg and Vanessa Nakate marched through Glasgow to protest against fossil fuel investments and the failure to tackle climate change.

COP26 discussions are currently midway where 120 world leaders have gathered to take action on climate change along which includes measures such as the curbing of deforestation, phasing out coal, ending the funding of fossil fuels and cutting methane emissions.

However, significant measures still remain in regards to what is needed to prevent global temperatures rising 1.5C above pre-industrial levels.

Countries now face immense pressure to increase ambition for the next ten years as well as delivering finance for developing countries to deal with the crisis.
