Man accused of murdering British MP David Amess to appear before court today

Alleged terrorist Ali Harbi Ali will be appearing before the Old Bailey today after being charged with the murder of Conservative MP David Amess.

The 25-year-old is accused of fatally stabbing the British MP on the 15th of October during a constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea in Essex.

During the meeting, Ali was seen using his mobile phone before standing up and producing a large knife from his pocket which he used to repeatedly stab Mr. Amess.

The MP was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 1:10pm with a post-mortem revealing the cause of death as multiple stab wounds to his chest.

Additionally, Ali is also being charged with preparing acts of terrorism between May 1st 2019 and September of this year.

Ali will be appearing before Mr. Justice Sweeney for a preliminary hearing with a provisional trial date already being identified for the 7th of March this year.

The Crown Prosecution Service has alleged that there is a terrorist connection in the murder because of its “religious and ideological” motives.
