Government has no plans to implement any new restrictions – Varadkar

The Irish Government currently has no plans to implement new Covid-19 restrictions, according to Tánaiste Leo Varadkar.

He said there will be no implementing of restrictions based on case numbers alone, noting that hospital and ICU admissions are stable.

Varadkar said the high level of case numbers are not translating into the same level of hospitalisation and ICU admissions as seen in the earlier stages of the pandemic.

The Tánaiste further highlighted that it is far too simplistic to link the high case numbers to nightclubs reopening on October 22nd.

“We do have high case levels but the vaccine wall is holding, and the number of people in hospital is high and the number of people in ICU is high, but it’s more or less where we would have expected it to be at this stage given the projections,” Varadkar said.

“So it’s a case of hold firm and stick with the plan: Booster vaccines, isolate if you’ve got symptoms, test trace, and wearing masks and social distancing where possible.”

He maintained there is no plans for any new restrictions.
