No further restrictions or lockdowns are being considered – Holohan

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Tony Holohan has said additional public health measures are not being considered at the moment.

He further said a Covid-19 “circuit breaker” lockdown is not being discussed.

Holohan went on to say that Amárach research data has shown that one in four people who attended hospitality venues last weekend were not asked to provide their Covid-19 Digital Certificate.

He said that NPHET would encourage people to do the right thing.

The CMO said small changes in socialisation could have a big impact on the number of infections in the community.

The update comes as Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly confirmed that the ‘R’ number is above 1 in Ireland.

Donnelly is seeking to extend the emergency powers legislation – which includes the wearing of face coverings – to February 9th 2022.
