Five Covid-19 outbreaks recorded in schools last week

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) has said that five outbreaks of Covid-19 were reported in schools last week.

The report did not specify whether the outbreaks occurred in primary or post-primary schools.

The five school outbreaks involved a total of 32 cases of the virus.

The HSE discontinued the routine testing of close contacts in mainstream primary schools a number of weeks ago.

In the report released, the change in contact tracing policy for children aged 12 years does not impact on the notification of outbreaks within a school or childcare facility.

School teachers and principals have expressed concern in recent weeks about a number of outbreaks in schools across the country.
