HSE vaccine registration and vaccine centres closed today

The Health Service Executive (HSE) has announced that its vaccine registration system will not be available today due to essential updating to the Covid-19 Vaccination Information System (COVAX).

As well as online registration, vaccine centres will also close today to allow for the update to take place, with services resuming tomorrow.

According to the HSE, the system update will be able to provide increased capability to support the booster vaccination programme.

However, GP and pharmacy vaccinations will operate as normal today.

The HSE stressed the importance of these updates, stating that it ensures that it can continue to roll out vaccines as safely and quickly as possible.

This comes as the National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC) meet today in order to discuss booster vaccines for healthcare workers amid concerns that vaccine efficacy is waning among this group.

Up to 3,500 healthcare workers are absent from work due to Covid-19-related illness which has placed significant pressure on hospitals, whose staff have been left physically and emotionally exhausted as a result of the pandemic.

As a result of staff shortages, certain wards at hospitals have been closed down and there are fears that further closures could take place if booster vaccines are not rolled out for healthcare staff soon.
