Man dressed as ‘Joker’ arrested after stabbing multiple people on Tokyo train

A man dressed as The Joker from Batman has been arrested in Tokyo for attempted murder after a knife and fire attack on a commuter train.

At least 17 people have been reportedly injured in the incident, with one seriously injured.

Local media reported that a man in his 20s was wearing a green shirt and indigo suit and attacked people with a knife and started a fire on the train.

“At first I thought it was something like a Halloween event. But I rushed away as a man carrying a long knife came in. I was very fortunate not to be injured,” a man who was on the train said.

Dozens of emergency services attended the scene.

Violent crimes in Japan is unusual, but in August nine people were wounded in a stabbing on a commuter train in Tokyo.

Police investigations are ongoing.
