While speaking on RTÉ’s This Week, Ms. Foley stated, “Today I’m announcing that we have 100 additional teachers being made available to these substitution panels. These are teachers that are being employed on a full-time basis to provide emergency cover for schools,”.

In regards to contact tracing and the use of antigen tests, Foley said that they are matters to be considered by the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).

Ms. Foley said that she acknowledges that public health advice has served well for schools and that if the change is needed, they will cooperate with the implementation of any change while adding that “there may well be an opportunity for the use of antigen testing.”
