Mr. Kenny was not in the complex at the time of the call and the incident has been referred to gardaí.

The gun threat had been issued to a member of staff who was shaken by the incident, which occurred at approximately 11am today.

A Sinn Féin spokeswoman had told the Irish Examiner that “Martin Kenny’s office received a call, which contained a threat to shoot a Garda and the same person issued a threat against Leinster House. We alerted the Gardaí and the Oireachtas of this threat.”

No threats were made against a named Sinn Féin TD “but obviously all threats need to be treated seriously by the Gardaí. It is now in their hands.”

This comes amid security concerns for politicians with Taoiseach Micheál Martin calling for a review into the security of TDs amid concerns that threats and violence against politicians are rising internationally.

Martin Kenny was subject to death threats two years ago after his car was burned in the early hours of the morning.

The death threats came after Kenny spoke out against a “far-right ideology that is being peddled in this country” in regards to asylum seekers.
