Dave Chappelle slams cancel culture following Netflix transgender controversy

US comedian Dave Chappelle has hit out at those who are attempting to “cancel” him after the backlash faced from his Netflix special.

Chappelle took to Instagram to who his willingness to meet members of the transgender community, after criticism that his comedy show was transphobic.

There was a small protest outside Netflix headquarters over Chappelle’s comments.

Chappelle posted a video to Instagram in his first public reaction to critics following the controversy.

Chappelle said: “It’s been said in the press that I was invited to speak to transgender employees at Netflix and I refused.”

“That is not true. If they had invited me I would have accepted it. Although I am confused about what we are speaking about… You said you want a safe working environment at Netflix. Well it seems like I’m the only one that can’t go to the office anymore,” he continued.

“To the transgender community, I am more than willing to give you an audience.”

“But you will not summon me. I am not bending to anybody’s demands,” he continued.
