COVID-19: ICU figures are at their highest since March

According to the Department of Health, ICU numbers are at their highest since March 8th of this year, currently standing at 99.

The department also confirmed a further 1,845 new cases of Covid-19 with the number of people receiving treatment in hospital nearing 500.

This morning, there were 497 people receiving treatment for Covid-19 in hospital which is an increase of 24 from yesterday.

Health officials have stated that unvaccinated people are 17 times more likely to be seriously ill from Covid-19 when compared to fully vaccinated people.

More than six in ten people who are seriously ill with Covid-19 are unvaccinated, according to the latest figures.

However, Health Service Executive (HSE) chief Paul Reid has stated that the initiatives to increase vaccine uptake appear to be working as the number of people registering for the vaccine has doubled in recent days.

Over 2,000 people a day are registering for the vaccine, which is up from 800 to 1,000 when compared to the week before.
