Boris Johnson rules out move to ‘Covid Plan B’ as cases rise across Britain

The British Government has ruled out a move to its ‘Covid Plan B’ as an expert advisory group has warned that vaccination will not be enough to bring down current rates of infection in England.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has resisted calls from health officials, saying vaccines will get England through the winter and out of the pandemic.

Professor Adam Finn, who is on the Joint Committee of Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) warned people need to be testing themselves, wearing masks and avoiding crowds in enclosed spaces.

He warned against complacency in what is a “worsening situation”.

Plan B includes reinstating the mandatory use of face coverings and working from home guidance.

The Government said there is still spare capacity in the NHS and Plan B will only be activated if it comes under “significant pressure”.
