Young woman seriously injured after being struck in the face by firework in Galway

Investigations are ongoing after a young woman sustained serious injuries following an incident involving a firework in Galway.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight in Galway’s Eyre Square where the woman is understood to have been standing at a bus stop.

While standing at the bus stop, a firework was launched from across the street near the Tourist Information Kiosk.

The firework had struck the woman in the face, resulting in her sustaining a serious facial injury.

Following the incident, the woman was removed from the scene by ambulance. This incident comes amid growing concerns in relation to increased anti-social behaviour around the Eyre Square area of the city.

Gardaí believe at the time of the incident that there was a large group of people in Eyre Square.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information in relation to the incident to contact them.

They are also appealing for any video footage of the incident, including CCTV, dash-cam or mobile phone, to make it available to them immediately.
