POLL: Do you think the recent surge in Covid-19 cases is worrying?

In the past few weeks, Ireland has experienced a dramatic surge in Covid-19 cases which have in some way interfered with the reopening of the country.

Thankfully, a large chunk of restrictions have been eased despite the rising cases, but with a population where 88.31% of which is fully vaccinated, one would imagine that the easing of restrictions shouldn’t be too concerning but to some people it is.

Despite such a high vaccination rate, there are currently 448 people receiving treatment in hospital for Covid-19, 88 of which are receiving treatment in ICU.

Some individuals may consider this a reason to be worried, however, others could make the argument that these people receiving treatment may be unvaccinated or have underlying health conditions.

Fully vaccinated individuals can still contract Covid-19 but will only have mild symptoms, meaning that case numbers can still surge in a population where the majority of people are fully vaccinated but hospitalisations and death rates will be significantly lower.

In Ireland’s case, this seems to be what’s happening, with 2,029 cases being reported yesterday which is significantly higher than hospitalisations and ICU numbers.

This means that people are testing positive but are not getting extremely sick as a result.

Armed with the knowledge that has been provided above, do you think the recent surge in Covid-19 cases is worrying?
