Truck driver (60s) dies following devastating crash in Monaghan

A truck driver has died following a devastating collision that occurred in Monaghan this morning.

According to gardaí, a tanker truck had veered off the road on the N12 in Knockaconny and collided through a roadside ditch.

The driver, aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident.

The man’s body was taken to the mortuary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where a post mortem examination is expected to take place.

The N12 Monaghan to Armagh road has been closed to allow for Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to conduct a technical examination of the scene.

Diversions have also been put in place while the examination is underway.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.

Road users with dash-cam footage who were travelling on the N12 between 7:00am and 7:30am are also being urged to make the footage available to gardaí.
