Second primary school closes following Covid-19 outbreak

A second primary school has closed its doors to pupils this week over concerns of multiple cases of Covid-19 among the school community.

Hollywood National School in Wicklow said its decision to close its doors is supported by public health officials.

The school educates 135 students.

A Wexford primary school closed this month due to a Covid-19 outbreak, making the decision independently of public health advice.

The Department of Education has previously said school closures should only be permitted following advice from public health officials.

Hollywood National School declined to comment any further on the incident.

New easing of regulations last month means school children who are close contacts of confirmed cases, but are asymptomatic, don’t have to self-isolate.
