NPHET meeting ahead of Government decision on October 22nd reopening

The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) is meeting today to discuss and assess the epidemiological situation of Covid-19 in the country.

NPHET will then advise Government on what restrictions to ease ahead of the October 22nd reopening, where the majority of restrictions are due to be lifted.

A recent unexpected spike in cases, and subsequently hospitalisations has caused public health doctors and ministers to strike a more negative tone towards the reopening plans.

NPHET is due to meet before 2pm today and will then deliver its advice to the Cabinet Covid-19 sub-committee.

Cabinet will make a final decision on reopening tomorrow.

Government has indicated that the requirement to show the Digital Covid-19 Certificate to gain access to indoor hospitality may be extended beyond Friday.

The reopening of nightclubs is also on the agenda, with politicians indicating that the reopening may be delayed, on a staggered basis and may require use of the Digital Covid-19 Certificate.
