UK Home Secretary Priti Patel is to be questioned in relation to the murder of UK MP David Amess, who was fatally stabbed on Friday by a 25-year-old man who is now being held under the Terrorism Act.
Later on today during media interviews, Ms. Patel will be questioned in relation to what was known about the suspect and if he was known to the UK Government’s anti-terrorist programme prior to the incident.
Ms. Patel will also be asked questions in relation to the safety of other MPs.
The 25-year-old suspect, understood to have been identified as Ali Harbi Ali by PA news agency, has been subject to further detention which was granted yesterday at Westminister Magistrates’ Court.
The investigation is said to be assuming that the suspect, a British national with Somali heritage, was under the motivation of Islamic extremism.
However, it’s understood that the suspect was not and had not been a subject of interest for security services.
Counter-terrorism officer Deputy Assistant Commissioner Dean Haydon stated that early investigations revealed, “a potential motivation linked to Islamist extremism”, however, an investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
