Man hospitalised following horrific shooting in Cork

Gardaí are investigating a shooting that occurred in Cork City last night where a 25-year-old man was seriously injured.

The incident occurred at a house in Broad Lane in Blackpool at approximately 12:00am.

It’s understood that a gunman had fired through the door of the man’s house, resulting in wounds to his upper body.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital following the incident where he underwent surgery for the injuries that he sustained.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A short time after the incident, a car was discovered burnt out at Kilnap on the Old Mallow Road, which gardaí are investigating if it was the getaway car used in the shooting.

Both the house and the car will be undergoing a forensic examination today with door-to-door enquiries taking place to determine if anyone noticed anything suspicious in either the lead up to the shooting or the aftermath.
